About Wow! That's Engineering!
In this Wow! That’s Engineering! event, SWE creates an experience for high school girls where they have the opportunity to meet female engineers and technologists and hear first-hand about these exciting career paths. Women engineers and technologists present interactive activities and the girls experience the creativity and innovation that goes on in the field of engineering.
Our Goal
While the demand for technology-savvy entrants in the workplace is growing three times faster than all other occupations, the percentage of women engineers in the workforce remains at approximately ten percent. In an effort to change the current perspective of engineering and technology fields among girls, the Society of Women Engineers will celebrate Wow! That’s Engineering!, honoring the achievements of women and girls as they develop and discover the future through technology.

Activities Planned:
Academic Panel
Learn about supporting your daughter through college and the realities of Engineering College. We will have a UC Riverside woman engineering professor and UC Riverside College of Engineering staff to answer questions you may have from how to choose an engineering school to how to make the transition from high school to college.
Professional Women Engineer Panel
Led by the SWE - Orange County professional section, learn about careers in engineering from real practicing women engineers. This is your chance to learn what it's like to be an engineer.
Lab Tours
Visit a real engineering research lab at UC Riverside. As time/space permits, you may have opportunities to visit the Bacterial Adhesion Lab, Nanofabrication Cleanroom, or the Environmental Flow Modeling Lab.

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders. Objectives: • Inform young women, their parents, counselors, and the general public, of the qualifications and achievements of women engineers and the opportunities open to them. • Assist women in readying themselves for a return to active work after temporary retirement. • Serve as a center of information on women in engineering. • Encourage women engineers to attain high levels of education and professional achievement.
